Puerto Vallarta Weather in June

The weather in June in Puerto Vallarta marks the beginning of the summer/rainy season, but it is still a great time to visit.

The rain doesn’t usually start until mid-month, and it only rains for an hour or two each day (usually in the late afternoons). The rest of the day is still beautiful, just humid.

So no, don’t expect all rainy days. It averages about 79mm throughout the month and ten rainy days in total. There may be some cloud cover – which usually makes for breathtaking sunsets!

This time of year experiences high temperatures, but the refreshing ocean breezes and warm waters of the Bay of Banderas make it a delightful time to engage in various water activities.

The daytime temperatures in Puerto Vallarta in June range from 86°F (30°C) to 92°F (33°C), offering ideal conditions for swimming in the sea and relaxing on the beach. Just remember to bring shade!

The average low temperature hovers around 74°F (23°C) during the night, providing a more comfortable night temperature for evening strolls and outdoor dining.

Hurricane season doesn’t start until August, so you don’t need to worry about this.

Things to do in Puerto Vallarta in June

If you’re wondering what to do in puerto vallarta in June, there are plenty of options. Here are some of my favorite activities!

Water Sports

With warmer ocean temperatures, June is perfect for indulging in various water activities. Whether you’re into snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, or paddleboarding, the crystal-clear waters of the Pacific Ocean offer an excellent playground for water sports.

The higher water temperatures also make the waters much clearer as there are no plankton blooms, making it a great time to explore the underwater world. I’ve been diving in Puerto Vallarta in February and June, and the visibility is MUCH better later in the season.

You can take a private snorkeling tour to Los Arcos or visit Hidden Beach on the Marietas Islands. Although heat and humidity are pretty intense, diving into the ocean will eliminate those two problems.

Swim with dolphins

Sadly the humpback whales will be gone by June, but you can still find bottlenose dolphins playing in the waves.

I never recommend swimming with captive dolphins, but this ethical dolphin swimming tour is a great way to connect with them.

You will learn about dolphins from a marine biologist, listen to their communication, and jump into the ocean for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Swimming with dolphins is something I’ll never forget – they are incredibly playful animals and magical to see up close in their natural habitat.

Sea turtle hatching

The summer months are the start of the sea turtle hatching season in Puerto Vallarta. While June is early, it’s possible there may be hatching happening. Follow this Facebook page to see if there are any sea turtle hatching open to the public – they are a non-profit that protects the turtles.

I took part in a sea turtle hatching in February, and it was the most heart-warming experience. There’s no feeling like seeing the baby turtles run instinctively toward the ocean!

Swim in Waterfalls

Another incredible activity to experience in Puerto Vallarta is swimming in the breathtaking waterfalls nestled within the lush tropical jungles surrounding the city. June is the perfect time to do this as the weather will be hot and the foliage will be lush from the rain.

There are many waterfalls around Puerto Vallarta to explore. The Yelapa waterfalls are by far my favorite (it’s one of the best day trips), but if you’re looking for something closer, Palo Maria is a great option.

Go Fishing

June is an excellent time for deep sea fishing enthusiasts, as the waters off Puerto Vallarta teem with life. Mahi Mahi, also known as Dorado, is abundant during this season, offering exciting opportunities to reel in a big catch.

Enjoy the Sunset

With longer daylight hours in June, you’ll have ample time to witness breathtaking sunsets. Check the sunset times and find a scenic spot along the coast to marvel at the golden hues painting the sky. It’s a magical way to end your day in Puerto Vallarta.

Special Events in June

Restaurant Week

Don’t miss the chance to participate in the annual Restaurant Week event, a culinary extravaganza that takes place from May through June. During this time, renowned restaurants throughout the city offer specially curated menus at discounted prices.

It’s the perfect opportunity to indulge in the diverse flavors of Puerto Vallarta and experience the culinary prowess of local chefs. From traditional Mexican delicacies to international cuisines, Restaurant Week is the best time to check out Puerto Vallarta’s vast restaurant scene.

Tips for Traveling in June

Stay up to date with the weather forecast

Stay updated on the weather forecast before your trip to plan your activities accordingly. While Puerto Vallarta experiences great weather in June, rain is possible, so it’s always a good idea to be prepared for when it might happen so you don’t get caught.

Honestly, though, I got caught in the rain hiking last year in Palo Maria, and it was a pretty amazing feeling to be walking through the rainforest with so much life around me.

Get a hotel with air conditioning

There’s no doubt about it, Puerto Vallarta in June is hot and humid. Get a hotel or apartment with air conditioning, or you will regret it. Thankfully, most of the hotels here come equipped with AC.
