Walking through downtown on a Wednesday evening, popping into galleries, chatting with Puerto Vallarta artists, and seeing new work always feels refreshing. It’s one of those experiences that gives you a real sense of the city beyond the beaches and bars.
You don’t need to know much about art to enjoy it. You can pop into a few galleries, ask questions about something that catches your eye, and leave time for dinner afterward.
In this guide, I’ll share everything you need to know about the Art Walk, from when and where it happens to tips for making the most of your visit. Whether you’re an art lover or just curious, it’s an easy, fun way to spend an evening in the city.
Puerto Vallarta Art Walk Event Details
The 2026–2027 Puerto Vallarta ArtWalk runs every Wednesday from October 28, 2026, through May 26, 2027, from 6–10 p.m. It’s a self-guided evening, so you can choose your galleries and move at your own pace. There’s no registration needed.
Admission is free, and you don’t need to book a ticket. It’s one of the free things to do in Puerto Vallarta that I recommend for an evening out.
The official ArtWalk is centered in historic Centro, where you can walk between galleries. Start wherever you like; there’s no guided group you need to catch up with. Galleries elsewhere in town can make a separate outing, but they aren’t automatically part of the Wednesday route.

Participating Galleries
The Puerto Vallarta Art Walk features various galleries that showcase local and international artists in different mediums, from contemporary paintings to traditional Mexican folk art. Each gallery has its own style, offering something for every art lover.
Some of the notable galleries you’ll come across include:
- Colectika – Contemporary Mexican folk and Indigenous art at Guadalupe Sánchez 858, on the corner of Allende.
- Galería Corsica – Contemporary Mexican fine art at Guadalupe Sánchez 756.
- THE LOFT Galería – Contemporary and modern art at Corona 176-A.
- UNFINISHED Gallery & Lounge – Art by artists living in the Vallarta area, with a bar and rooftop spaces, at Mina 183.

What to Expect During the Art Walk
When I do the Art Walk, I usually start at Galería Colectika and go south. It’s a perfect starting point because it sets the tone with its incredible collection of indigenous and folk art from across Mexico.
From there, I love strolling through the cobblestone streets, gallery-hopping at my own pace, with each space offering something completely different.
On an earlier visit, I enjoyed Galería Olas Altas and meeting artist Michael Tolleson. That visit is a personal memory, not a confirmed stop on the current ArtWalk route; use the organizer’s gallery list when planning this season’s evening.
I loved talking with him and hearing the story behind his work. He was warm and open, and the paintings were vibrant and full of emotion. Those conversations are one of my favorite parts of exploring galleries.
The overall vibe of the Art Walk is relaxed and welcoming. You’ll find:
- A casual evening stroll through charming downtown streets
- Opportunities to meet the artists and gallery owners, hear their stories, and ask questions about their work.
- Some galleries offer a drink or small refreshments. It’s a nice extra, but don’t count on every stop providing them.
- A diverse range of art, from contemporary paintings and bold sculptures to ceramics, jewelry, and traditional Mexican crafts.
Whether you’re an art collector, looking for unique pieces to furnish a new property in Puerto Vallarta, or want to pick up a unique souvenir, the Art Walk is a fantastic way to find something meaningful—and maybe even meet the artist behind it.
History and significance of the Puerto Vallarta Art Walk
The organizer dates Vallarta ArtWalk’s beginnings to 1996. Galleries in historic Centro joined together to give visitors a chance to see their collections during an evening walk, and it’s still a self-guided event today.
It’s also an easy way to get to know the galleries before buying a piece. Ask about the artist, the materials and shipping if you find something you want to take home.
Tips for Attending the Art Walk Puerto Vallarta
To make the most of your Puerto Vallarta Art Walk experience, here are some practical tips based on my visits:
- Start Early: Arrive around 6:00 PM when the galleries open. This gives you plenty of time to explore without feeling rushed, especially if you want to chat with artists.
- Wear Comfortable Shoes: The downtown area has charming cobblestone streets, which add to the vibe but aren’t always friendly to fancy footwear. Opt for comfortable shoes that are good for walking.
- Pick Up a Map: Ask for the current paper map at a participating gallery. The official Art Walk website has the gallery directory, but its map button wasn’t opening a separate map when I checked. The map image above is from an earlier season.
- Don’t Be Shy—Talk to the Artists: One of the best parts of the Art Walk is meeting the people behind the work. Many artists are present and love sharing the stories and techniques behind their pieces.
- Ask Before Taking Photos: Some galleries welcome photos, while others have restrictions. Check with the staff before photographing the work.
- Bring a Small Bag or Backpack: If you plan on purchasing art or small souvenirs, it’s handy to have something to carry them in safely.
- Buying Something? Ask about the price, packing and shipping before paying. A small piece might fit in your bag; larger work needs a proper plan for getting it home.
- Stay Hydrated: Despite being an evening event, Puerto Vallarta can still be warm and humid, especially during the early season. A small water bottle can be a lifesaver.
- Make It a Night Out: The Art Walk pairs perfectly with dinner at one of the many great restaurants in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Grab a bite before or after to round out your evening.
- Follow Galleries on Social Media: If you discover an artist or gallery you love, follow them online to stay updated on new exhibitions and events.
Art Beyond the Puerto Vallarta Art Walk
While the Puerto Vallarta Art Walk is a fantastic way to experience the city’s art scene, there’s plenty more to explore outside of the galleries. Puerto Vallarta is filled with public art, from sculptures along the Malecón to vibrant street murals tucked away in different neighborhoods.
The Malecón Sculptures
The Malecón, Puerto Vallarta’s famous seaside boardwalk, is like an open-air art gallery. As you stroll along, you’ll find an impressive collection of sculptures created by renowned Mexican artists, such as “The Boy on the Seahorse” by Rafael Zamarripa – An iconic symbol of Puerto Vallarta, which captures the spirit of the city’s connection to the sea.
The Malecón is especially lively around sunset, and you can enjoy the sculptures as you walk along the waterfront. Take photos from the walkway and respect any barriers or signs; public art isn’t automatically meant to be climbed on.
Street Art in Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta also has a thriving street art scene, with colorful murals spread throughout the city. You’ll find some of the most striking pieces in neighborhoods like El Centro, Versalles, and parts of the Romantic Zone. The street art here reflects a mix of cultural themes, from traditional Mexican imagery to bold, contemporary designs.

For handmade goods, the seasonal Olas Altas Farmers Market in Lázaro Cárdenas Park is another option. It has crafts, textiles and artwork alongside food stalls. It’s a separate Saturday daytime market, so check the new season’s dates before going; it isn’t part of Wednesday ArtWalk.

The Art Walk is a great way to spend an evening if you’re looking to see a different side of the city. Whether you’re into art or just curious, it’s a relaxed, engaging way to explore local galleries, meet artists, and see various work up close.
